Your Portrait Session

What should I wear?

Wear something that makes you feel like yourself. Solid colours and simple patterns tend to work best — they keep the focus on you rather than your outfit. Avoid large logos or very busy prints. If you're unsure, bring a couple of options and we'll decide together during the pre-session consultation.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions take place on location — at your home, your workplace, or anywhere in the Calgary area that feels right for your portraits. If you have a specific location in mind, bring it up during the consultation and we'll make it work.

How long does a session take?

That depends on the package you choose. Sessions range from 60 minutes for the Essential package to 2 hours for the Signature package. The time is yours — we move at your pace with no rushing.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. A friend or partner can be a great source of comfort, especially if you're nervous in front of the camera. Just let me know in advance so I can plan accordingly.

What if the weather is bad?

Calgary weather can be unpredictable. If conditions are unsuitable for your session we'll reschedule at no charge. We'll monitor the forecast together in the days leading up to your session and make a call with enough notice for everyone.

Do you work with groups or just individuals?

Sessions are open to individuals, couples, and small groups. If you have something specific in mind — a family, a team, or a creative project — get in touch and we'll talk through the details.

After the Session

How do I receive my images?

Your retouched images are delivered through a private online gallery, typically within 10 to 14 business days of your session. From there you can download your images in high resolution and make your selections for any add-ons.

Can I share my images on social media?

Yes. All delivered images come with personal use rights, which includes sharing on social media. A photo credit is always appreciated but never required.

Do you offer printing services?

Yes. A range of printed products is available, from gift prints to large format wall prints. See the Investment page for current pricing. Every printed product includes the high-resolution digital file and personal print rights.

How long are my images kept on file?

Delivered images are kept on file for 90 days after your gallery is sent. If you need to re-download or purchase additional images after that period, get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Can I purchase more images after my session?

Yes. Additional fully retouched images are available at the add-on rate listed on the Investment page, directly from your gallery during the active period.

Booking and Payment

How do I book a session?

Head to the Contact page and fill in the form. Let me know which package interests you and a bit about what you have in mind. I'll follow up within one to two business days to set up a consultation and confirm your date.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment is accepted by e-transfer, credit card, and cash. Full details are provided at the time of booking.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your session date. The remaining balance is due on the day of your session.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

Session fees are non-refundable but fully transferable. You may reschedule once with at least 48 hours notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice forfeit the deposit.

Style and Approach

Do you shoot in a studio or on location?

All sessions are on location. Whether that's your home, your business, or a meaningful outdoor spot, the environment is part of the portrait. A controlled two-light setup travels with every session.

Can I request a specific style or mood?

Yes. The pre-session consultation is specifically for this. Bring references, describe a feeling, or just tell me what you want to avoid — all of it helps shape the session before we even pick up a camera.

How would you describe your style?

Dark, editorial, and grounded in observation. The work favours mood over brightness, and authentic expression over posed perfection. The goal is always a portrait that feels true to the person in front of the camera.

I've never had professional photos taken before. Will I feel awkward?

Most people do at first — that's completely normal. Sessions are intentionally relaxed and unhurried. There's no posing formula to follow. We talk, we move, and the camera is there when something real happens.

Corporate and Commercial Clients

How far in advance should we book?

For team or multi-subject sessions, booking at least two to three weeks in advance is recommended to allow time for the pre-session consultation, subject scheduling, and any location logistics. Larger shoots requiring permits or significant coordination should be booked further out. Contact us early and we'll work backward from your deadline.

Can you accommodate large teams or multiple locations in one day?

Yes. Commercial sessions are scoped to your needs. Half-day and full-day rates are available, and multi-location or multi-setup shoots are quoted accordingly. The number of subjects and any changes to that number must be confirmed at least 48 hours before the session date.

Do you work with a creative brief or art director?

Yes. If your organization has specific requirements regarding style, backgrounds, number of setups, or deliverable format, provide them in writing before the session date and they will be confirmed in writing before we proceed. Clear briefs produce better results for everyone.

What usage rights does our organization receive?

The session fee includes a standard license covering internal corporate use, external corporate use — including your public website, LinkedIn company page, annual reports, newsletters, brochures, and press releases — and provision of images to media at no monetary cost for editorial coverage. This covers the vast majority of professional portrait and headshot applications.

Can we use the images in paid advertising or commercial campaigns?

Not under the standard license. Paid advertising placement and commercial use — including packaging, vehicle wraps, point-of-sale materials, and digital ad platforms — require a separate extended license agreement and additional fee. If you anticipate needing advertising or commercial use, this must be disclosed before the session date so the extended license can be agreed upon and documented in writing prior to shooting.

Can individual employees use their headshots on their personal LinkedIn profiles?

Yes. Each photographed individual is permitted to use their own delivered headshot for personal professional purposes, including their personal LinkedIn profile, personal professional website, and professional biography pages. This right is granted to the individual directly at no additional charge and does not require a separate agreement.

How long does the license last?

The license duration is specified on your agreement and invoice. Use beyond the agreed license period requires a written renewal agreement and may be subject to additional fees. The geographic territory is Canada unless a broader territory is explicitly agreed upon in writing.

Do you provide images in multiple formats and sizes?

Delivered images are provided in high-resolution digital format suitable for both print and screen use. If your organization requires specific file formats, colour profiles, or size variants, communicate this in writing before the session date and it will be noted on the invoice.

Can you shoot on-site at our office or facility?

Yes. All commercial sessions are on location. A professional two-light setup travels with every session. If your location requires building access arrangements, security clearance, or permits, those details should be confirmed well in advance of the session date.

How is commercial pricing structured?

Commercial sessions are available at a half-day rate (4 hours) or full-day rate (8 hours), with per-image fees for colour-balanced, high-resolution digital delivery. Travel, permits, prop or equipment rentals, and advanced retouching are quoted separately. A written estimate is provided before every commercial booking — there are no surprises on the invoice.

What are the payment terms for corporate clients?

Full payment is due at the time of booking. For verified corporate clients requiring payment by invoice through an internal purchase order process, net-30 terms may be available at the Photographer's discretion and must be confirmed in writing before the session date. Late payments are subject to interest at 24% per annum calculated monthly. All fees are subject to 5% Goods and Services Tax, itemized separately on every invoice. Alberta has no provincial sales tax.

What is the cancellation policy for commercial bookings?

The session fee is non-refundable under all circumstances. One reschedule is permitted at no charge with at least 48 hours written notice, and the rescheduled session must take place within 90 days of the original date. A second reschedule requires a new booking and full payment. No-shows forfeit the full session fee with no rescheduling offered.

Who is responsible for obtaining consent from photographed employees?

The Client is solely responsible for obtaining and documenting the informed consent of all individuals to be photographed, in compliance with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act. By signing the session agreement, the Client confirms that all subjects have been informed their images may be used by the Photographer for portfolio and promotional purposes, and that they consent to such use. Any individual who objects may notify us in writing within 10 calendar days of image delivery and their image will be removed from all public-facing promotional use.

Do you deliver raw files?

No. Raw files are not delivered under any circumstances and remain the exclusive property of the Photographer. Delivered images are professionally edited selections reflecting the Photographer's judgment as to the best images from the session.
